James & George Collie are a full-service law firm, well established and recognised in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, with expertise across a wide spectrum of the law. With experience in a range of practice areas, including property matters such as the sale or lease of your home, through to personal matters including wills and executries. James & George Collie also hold expertise in business matters such as commercial property and licensing and court matters like debt recovery and dispute resolution.
Watson Alarms were approached by Laura Hay – Office Manager on behalf of the James & George Collie Partners to provide a proposal to update the existing Fire Alarm System at the Head Office at East Craibstone Street in Aberdeen.
A survey visit was arranged which identified an existing set up which comprised of a hard-wired system and a wireless system working together to cover the whole site. As the existing wireless system had some faults, and spare parts were no longer available, and the hard-wired system would also have numerous recommendations proposed to keep the overall system fully compliant with BS5839 Part 1:2017 a full wireless upgrade was offered.
Our proposal to install Cygnus SmartNet System allowed us to offer a complete replacement without the need to reuse any of the existing equipment or cabling infrastructure whilst also avoiding major disruption to the day-to-day operation of James and George Collie office and potential high re-decoration costs which would have been realized if a traditional hard-wired solution had been chosen.
The SmartNet system comprises of remote wireless devices powered by an internal battery pack. Its wireless mesh technology is highly advanced and has increased radio sensitivity, providing enhanced early fire detection reducing the occurrence of unwanted or false alarms.
The SmartNet system is a newly designed network of EN 54 compliant wireless fire detection and alarm devices suitable for permanent installation across a wide range of environments. The wireless network is part of a robust self-forming and self-healing mesh network technology, providing a highly reliable system.
Our proposal was accepted, and a programme of work was agreed with the Client to ensure continuity of services between existing maintenance provider and Watson Alarms, whilst also keeping onsite time to a minimum by coordinating for the full system to be fully programmed and preconfigured at our Ellon Office. Our Engineer team were only onsite for a few days to carry out the strip out of the old system as well as the installation, testing and commissioning of the brand-new system.
The relationship blossomed from the early stages of Watson Alarms supporting Laura and the wider James and George Collie team and we were soon expanding the services provided by being asked to takeover and maintain other disciplines across not only the Head Office but also the other two offices on Union Street, Aberdeen and Ann Street, Stonehaven.
Watson Alarms are delighted to continue to support a well-recognized local company like James and George Collie with a multi-discipline maintenance contract covering the monitored Intruder Alarm, monitored Fire Alarm, Emergency Lighting and Fire Extinguishers across all northeast offices.
As we approach 6 months since completion of the initial Fire Alarm project and takeover of the other disciplines Watson Alarms have continued to provide support on all of the systems to ensure they are kept in full operational status and full compliance with the relevant British and European Standards as well as allowing James and George Collie to successfully navigate any audits relevant to their specialist business. Laura and her colleagues also have the comfort that Watson Alarms are only a phone call away and have access to an Engineer 24 hours a day/365 days a year should any issues arise which need our assistance.
